Creating Blissful Reiki Sessions: Three Tips to Enhance Your Client Experience

When you first start charging for your Reiki healing sessions, it's natural to feel a bit intimidated or awkward. Perhaps you began your Reiki journey by offering sessions to family and friends, and now you’re ready to charge money for a full 60-90-minute session. It’s completely normal if the first few sessions are a little clunky. You might still be refining your style, and that’s perfectly fine. I'm here to offer some simple tips that you can start using today in your Reiki healing sessions. If you’re a seasoned Reiki healer, you might already be familiar with these tips, or perhaps not. Either way, I’m here to support you and help you enhance your healing sessions. Remember, the beauty is sometimes found in the details.

As a reiki practitioner, your goal is not only to facilitate healing but also to create a serene and blissful experience for each person who steps into your healing space. Ensuring your clients feel comfortable, valued, and deeply relaxed during their sessions is crucial for their overall satisfaction and the effectiveness of the healing process. In this article, we will explore three simple tips to enhance your client experience. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just starting out, these insights can help you create a truly blissful reiki experience that keeps clients coming back for more.

Tip #1: What’s that smell?

You might be laughing right now, but let me tell you that this can definitely be a problem. Let’s just say that at one point during my Reiki training, I had smelly garlic hands, and the other student mentioned it after the session. Now, in my defense, my hands were thoroughly washed, but as you know, garlic can… linger. Since I was so new to giving Reiki, I assumed that it was all good since my hands were washed. Obviously, now I know better.

Before you give a reiki healing session, especially if it’s a paying client, make sure your hands are not only washed but you didn’t cook a meal that involved you cutting onions and garlic beforehand. If, for whatever reason, you really need this meal before you give reiki healing, just make sure you scrub your hands with lemon. If you have to, avoid placing your hands directly over or on their face.

Tip #2: Brrr, it’s cold in here. There must be some reiki in the atmosphere.

If you’re a reiki healer, you know that you usually get overheated when giving reiki. This is a very common thing that happens, and it’s due to the energy flowing through us from the universe. Our bodies are being used as a conduit for this energy so that it can transfer to our clients. However, our clients release energy and therefore usually get cold. How can you remedy this? Make sure your thermostat is at a medium temperature. I find that somewhere between 72-74 degrees Fahrenheit usually works well. It’s usually cool enough for the healer but a comfortable temperature for the client as well. Also, make sure to have a blanket or two for the client. You can cover them up about a third or halfway through the session. Or, sometimes, you can just cover them up fully from the beginning if they want that. You can also add a heating pad underneath them as well.

Tip #3: Up in smoke

As a reiki healer or spiritual person in general, you probably love burning those herbs and incense. It’s great, I know. However, when you’re giving reiki to a client in a small room with a massage bed, it’s probably not a good idea to burn a ton of things before or during the session. After all, you’re not trying to hotbox with your client. I mean, maybe you are, who am I to judge? But, if you want your client to be able to fully relax and breathe during their healing session, you should probably keep the burning to a minimum. Always ask your client if they have any allergies or asthma before their session to make sure you’re not agitating anything.
